Our director, Carol, is very excited to be asked to present at a conference to be held at Longwood College in Farmville, VA hosted by The Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services. The conference is focused on Sexual Assault Response Training (SART). A part of Carol’s presentation will be the use of art therapy as a therapeutic response and treatment option with survivors of sexually violence crimes. Regional Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) Training

Course Description:
The Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) is pleased to announce a one-day training, Sexual Assault Response Teams (SART): Enhancing Your Response to Adult Sexual Assault Victims. This training will bring together current and aspiring SART members, including law enforcement, prosecutors, medical personnel, and victim advocates. Participants will learn how an effective SART can result in better outcomes for all team members and for sexual assault victims.
Who Should Attend?
This training is being offered to law enforcement, prosecutors, forensic/sexual assault nurse examiners and other medical personnel, victim advocates, and others who are interested in learning more about SART and how to respond to adult sexual assault victims.
Topics to be Addressed:
Brief introduction to Sexual Assault Response Teams (SART)
Understanding the trauma response to sexual assault
Roles of SART members
Building SART membership and enhancing participation
Ideas for more effective collaboration and communication among members
Review of the DCJS Sexual Assault Response Teams (SART): A Model Protocol for Virginia and the DCJS Law Enforcement Adult Sexual Assault Model Policy.
Partial In-Service Credit
Partial In-Service Credit for law enforcement officers is pending.
